Positive Psychology
Most of our courses are built on the foundations of Spirituality and Positive Psychology, helping people explore transformative ideas about how to flourish in life.
Positive psychology is sometimes referred to as ‘the study of what makes life most worth living’, or the ‘study of positive human functioning and flourishing’. At the heart of these themes are spiritual virtues and values around how we live life well. All of these can be found in the Christian faith.
Positive Psychology places an emphasis on meaning, purpose and flourishing, not just warm fuzzy feelings. Research suggests that softer factors more related to the spiritual dimension of life — including virtues like kindness, thankfulness and forgiveness — are at least as important, if not more, than material factors. It is most likely that positive emotion and well-being exercises detached from building character and virtues may not be as effective as when these are developed and maintained. This is the basis of Positive Psychology.
Our resources are about discovering the difference that can be made to our, and other people’s, well-being when we practise things like savouring, thankfulness, kindness and forgiveness, and when we develop healthy relationships and look after the mind, body and soul. Put simply, it’s about discovering what experts and faith leaders tell us can help us to live life well.
