Early Mission

our Christian purpose to equip churches

With over 52% of the UK population identifying as non-religious, we are living in what some call the country’s first atheistic age. Traditional approaches to mission often don’t resonate with those unfamiliar with the Christian faith, leading many to disengage before a conversation even begins.

Our founder was passionate about equipping the church to start meaningful dialogue with those outside of the church. He believed the church needed to think differently about mission, so set about incorporating conversational resources and courses around happiness as a means to help people start exploring the big and not-so-big questions of life.

That’s why we focus on early mission today—equipping Christians with the confidence to share their lives through meaningful conversations, meeting people where they are at. Rather than seeing disinterest as a barrier, we see it as an opportunity: a chance to start further back, build connections, and create space for life-changing discussions. Our work is sometimes described as pre-Alpha or that of ‘ploughing the ground’.

Our vision is to resource churches with a deeper understanding of early mission, and giving them resources that help them engage with those who are disconnected from faith. We want to see more people explore what it means to find life in all its fullness, and to do this we think we need to start by exploring spiritual values and the big and not so big questions of life. UDC resources are not designed to tell people what to believe or how to live, but to open up a conversation. Our heart is to empower Christians to share their own story of finding life in all its fullness with confidence, relevance, and authenticity whilst listening to others about their story.
